Dial Plan Configuration
Inbound Calling
To normalise all Kenyan caller ID variations—including those starting with 0, those starting with 254, and those sent as 9-digit local numbers—to the E.164 format (+254XXXXXXXX), use the following dialplan configuration in phone system
(refer to your phone system documentation for details)
| 01xx / 07xx / 0xx |
Number ranges handled by stripping the 0 and adding +254 |
254xx |
Handled by adding the missing + |
| 7xx / 1xx / 0xx |
Local 9-digit numbers (missing both prefix and country code) are normalized by adding +254 |
Why this is needed in Kenya
- Standardisation: Kenyan mobile numbers typically use the 07XX
or
01XX prefix while fixed-line area codes use 020 , 041 etc as per the area code
- Contact Matching: Many CRM and ERP systems require the +254 prefix to correctly identify a customer's record.
